PLAY BALL!

Shaun recently signed Will up for pee-wee gym that our town runs. Unfortunately we missed it the first week as Will was battling strep throat. So, last Tuesday, at 3:45 we were ready. And we were early. The class didn't start until 4:00!

John, the guy running the program, had a bunch of balls ready for the kids to play, so Will eagerly took a basketball and began running around the gym with it. It was funny to watch him from the bleachers as he interacted with the kids as they started showing up. I heard one kid ask Will his name - Will ignored him. There are some kids out there who are eager to get other kid's names, and my son is not one of them. To this day when I ask him who is in his class at daycare, I either get one name (his best buddy Jack) or I get "I don't know."

Anyway, class started with about 7 or 8 other kids, and John had them running back and forth from one side of the gym to the other. Then he had them join together in a circle in the middle of the gym, sitting down. There were two or three kids that didn't have great listening skills (actually they had zero listening skills), so they got back up and started running around the circle (a la "Duck Duck Goose"). I looked on so proud as my son sat still, good listening, until..........he gave in and started running around with the other misfits!! Ugh! My insides were screaming, "Will go sit down! John did not say to get up!" It became total chaos. Poor John.

Then, because we had gotten there early, Will lost his steam. Along with his steam, he also lost his sweatshirt and T-shirt because he was hot so he was down to his Batman tank top that has been on his body since last week (I'm pretty sure it's hermetically sealed on his body). He ran over to me, beads of sweat on his little nose and said he was "tired." I felt like Rocky Balboa's coach as I said, "You gotta get back out there kid. You can do this. Just one more round." Then my Rocky started to cry. He was done.

Luckily (for me) the class was just about over. John had the kids get back into the circle for stickers. Will got his sticker and we left.

This week is soccer - stay tuned.

P.S. Sorry for the picture - bad lighting in the gym!

Too funny! I'm glad he didn't strip down to his loose little batman underpants!

I can't take a decent picture in that gym either - can't they turn the lights up - what are we paying taxes for anyway!?! :-)
